A cuff for anyone who loves the bold geometry and vivid color of a classic Saltillo serape, this is wearable textile art with real southwestern soul woven into every row. Its hand-loomed beadwork recreates textile patterns and colors from a weaving tradition with roots reaching back centuries in Mexico.

The Saltillo serape tradition flourished in 1860–1900 and reaches back much further: in pre-Columbian Mexico, cloth was woven from cotton and ixtle, the fiber of the maguey plant, on simple backstrap looms, and when the Spaniards arrived in the sixteenth century, wool and new techniques joined the craft. This cuff recreates those textile patterns and colors from their historical references — hues that originally came from plants and minerals in nature.

Made with:

  • Hand-loomed beadwork in a Saltillo serape pattern
  • Leather/suede
